SHOCK POLL: Trump approval rating nears 50 percent as more Americans move to the right

WASHINGTON — A recently released Gallop poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating standing strong at nearly 50 percent.

According to the survey, 49 percent of Americans surveyed say they “approve or strongly approve” of the job Trump is doing in office. Further, 63% of U.S. adults rate current economic conditions as either excellent or good and 61% of Americans say the economy is getting better rather than worse.

The latest survey represents some of the strongest approval numbers for the president thus far this term.

On the flip side, just 23% of Americans polled said they approve of the job Congress is doing. Those numbers matched January’s survey, but were down slightly from 27% as reflected by opinions collected in December.

According to analysts at Gallop, the president’s strong approval numbers represent excellent news for his re-election campaign.

“An approval rating near 50% greatly increases Trump’s chances of being re-elected, a prospect that seemed unlikely with his approval stuck near 40% for most of his term,” the Gallop stated in it’s analysis of the numbers.

Even what appears to be even better news for the president, more Americans seem to moving to the political right.

“Gallup has observed an increase in the percentage of Americans identifying as Republicans (32% in the past two surveys, up from 28% in the prior two surveys), along with a decline in the percentage identifying as independents (41%, down from 43%) and Democrats (27%, down from 28%),” the survey stated.

The poll, conducted Feb. 3-16, surveyed 1,028 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
