Chuck Berry, who many in the music industry dubbed “the father of Rock and Roll,” has died.

The music legend was found dead Saturday at a residence outside St. Louis, police in St. Charles County said. He was 90 years old.

Berry, best known for his hits “Johnny B. Good” and “Nadine” was found unresponsive at around 12:40 p.m. (1:40 p.m. ET) Saturday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m.,” a post on the St. Charles County police Facebook page reads. “The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.”

Berry was considered an icon in the music industry and artists from Prince to John Lennon said they considered him a mentor.

“If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry,'” Lennon once said.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
